Ben Nemtin was just another student. Buried by work, by social obligations, money issues and by the day-to-day. While in school, Ben along with 3 other friends made a ‘100 things to do before you die’ list and decided that for every item we crossed off of our bucket list, we would help a complete stranger accomplish something on their list. They borrowed an RV, bought a camera on eBay, threw a goodbye party to raise money for gas and hit the road for two weeks. Ten years later they’re still on their mission.
Ben has traveled the world living out his “dreams” and desires while helping others with their dreams. He suggests creating a bucket list because he believes it helps you to stop and think about what you truly value. What many people do not know is that in his first year of college, Ben suffered from depression. He quit school and retreated from the world in his parent’s basement. What makes Ben such a health hero, is that he never gives up. He faced his depression then and he still battles it face to face today. Ben is a big believer in battling depression with everything he has and one of his favorite weapons is exercise. Ben says “Exercise is a big one. It’s hard to do it when you feel like sh*t but it makes you feel better. Also, talk about what’s going on in your head, don’t keep it inside. Sometimes it’s scarier inside. Above all else, know that there are people around you who will listen” Ben is passionate about living life and stepping outside his comfort zone even if you fail. He feels that something positive will come out of failure and one of those things is getting to know yourself and being able to say “At least I tried”.
Ben is an advocate of reaching out to those who suffer from depression, and for those with depression to reach out as well. The Buried Life’s mission is helping people become heroes themselves. Ben has found that if you let someone be a hero, they will do what they have to do to accomplish it. As the four friends continue with their mission, Ben has found that everyone can accomplish the things they want to do. He now spends time talking to groups, and through the website sharing experiences and creating a sense of excitement for others to take control of their lives and their dreams. Ben is big on teaching others to follow their dreams, desires and to live life.
