It is my honor to serve on the Board of Directors for the amazing Danialle Karmanos’ Work It Out program!
DKWIO a results-oriented program designed to empower total wellness in children from the inside out. Kids get the tools they need to effectively make healthy choices for their mind, body and spirit.
You’re never too young to be a Health Hero!
Instilling these practices and values in our youth sets them on the path to happier, healthier and less stressful lives. Every child deserves that opportunity … no matter their environment or circumstances.
Many of these kids are under a lot of stress and sometimes need a little escape from reality. They’re learning how a little inner focus and deep breathing can change their lives.
Never underestimate the power of yoga.
Yoga is proven to help kids stay focused and on the right track. Volunteer yoga instructors are teaching kids how the power of yoga can bring them peace. It makes them feel healthy, empowered and strong. And they’re learning a lot more than you might think.
This program is teaching kids how they can take control. They’re learning to find their own personal strength. They’re learning how yoga can help them to manage their stress.
And guess what? All they need to give in return is their time. The program is offered at no cost. There is no expensive equipment needed. Only time.
In fact, students at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School (in my home town of Detroit) are already learning the ropes!
Here’s what Danialle Karmanos (Program Founder and co-owner of Detroit’s Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute) has to say:
“As they start practicing, and they’re becoming aware of their breath, they have the opportunity to be still in a safe environment. A lot of these kids don’t have that opportunity, and they can appreciate taking that moment to be still and feel strong.”
Work it Out is improving the quality of life for these kids, and I couldn’t be prouder to lend my support!
If you have a minute, take a look at how it’s changing lives. You can even get involved in your community! Getting someone on the path to a happier healthier life? I can’t imagine anything better!
Make healthy living a part of every day.
The light in me honors the light in you. Namaste.

- Breathe. Take a few minutes today (that’s all it takes) to sit in stillness and focus on your breathing. Take a few slow, deep breaths and be present in the moment.
- Focus. Now that you’re more relaxed, think of one more thing you can do for yourself today that will improve your health or happiness.
- Pay it forward. Think of one way you can bring a little happiness to someone else today. It will nourish their soul … and yours.
- Be a role model for the children. Be a strong example for your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. Teach them to breathe, to build inner-focus and to take a moment before reacting. Teach them the power of positive self-talk and equip them to empower themselves … and others!
