Vitamin C

Otherwise known as ascorbic and L-ascorbic acid, Vitamin C has been deemed an essential nutrient and thus recommended to be used as a dietary supplement on a regular basis. Tissue repair and the production of some neurotransmitters are both processes that require a significant role of Vitamin C.

The immune function of a human body is mostly dependent on the level of Vitamin C. The nutrient was found in 1912 with its isolation taking place in 1928 and its chemical production starting in 1933. It is part of the model list of essential medicines prepared by the World Health Organization. It is therefore thought to be extremely safe and effective for a person’s health.

Vitamin C benefits an individual’s health in many ways. While there isn’t much evidence supporting the direct effect of Vitamin C on cold, people that regularly consume a Vitamin-C rich diet tend to recover faster than others. Also, Vitamin C is beneficial for facilitating the production of collagen and keeping the skin young and healthy. Vitamin C also helps in one way or the other when trying to treat different serious diseases as well, including hypertension, cancer, lead toxicity, and stroke.

One of the most notable effects of a Vitamin C deficiency is the disease called Scurvy. People suffering from this disease witness brown spots on their skin and suffer from progressing symptoms such as loose teeth and immobilization. Luckily, with the help of ensuring the right dosage of Vitamin C in the body, you can cure this disease.
