Episode Overview:

THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE FAMILY CONFLICTS … FROM RELIGION TO INTERRACIAL MARRIAGES TO REBELLIOUS TEENS. TODAY WE ARE LOOKING AT SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT DRIVE FAMILIES APART.  AND, WE’LL OFFER SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO KEEP THE FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS INTACT.

Partha’s Prescriptions:

  1. FAMILY CONFLICT ARISES WHEN VIEWS AND OPINIONS CLASH.  IT CAN RESULT FROM DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, MARRYING A PERSON OF A DIFFERENT RACE OR CULTURE, OR HAVING CHILDREN WHO REBEL AGAINST THE RULES OF THE HOUSEHOLD.

  2. CHILD CUSTODY AND VISITATION ARRANGEMENTS OFTEN CAUSE FAMILY CONFLICT, TOO. PARENTS SHOULD TRY TO  WORK OUT A CUSTODY AGREEMENT THAT WORKS BEST FOR THEM AND THE CHILDREN.  IF FAMILY COURT MAKES THE DECISION, IT MAY BE ONE THAT NEITHER PARENT LIKES.

  3. IT’S NORMAL FOR FAMILY MEMBERS TO DISAGREE FROM TIME TO TIME. THAT’S PART OF LIFE.  HOWEVER, IF YOU LET THE CONFLICT CONTINUE, YOUR HEALTH CAN SUFFER AND YOUR STRESS LEVELS WILL RISE.

  4.  AND FINALLY, ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO REACH A PEACEFUL RESOLUTION TO FAMILY CONFLICT IS THROUGH OPEN, TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION.  FAMILY MEMBERS SHOULD REMAIN CALM, LISTEN TO EACH OTHER, AND BE WILLING TO COMPROMISE.  AND, IF ALL ELSE FAILS, SIMPLY AGREE TO DISAGREE.
