Allergies are your body’s immune system overreacting to something that is generally harmless to most people. Allergies are triggered by something you are exposed to — pollen, pet dander, dust, certain foods, etc. — and cause your immune system to produce antibodies to fight that allergen. The problem is, in the process of fighting that allergen, you may experience some symptoms that make you feel like you have allergies. These symptoms are actually the immune system overreacting and fighting that allergen.Allergies and symptoms may seem to be the same thing, but they are not. In fact, allergies are often the cause of the symptoms you experience. Symptoms of allergies include itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat, and skin rashes. Many people mistakenly think they have allergies when in fact they are experiencing the symptoms of an overactive immune system.
